Ray Ferraro was born in Trail, on August 23, 1964. Ferraro enjoyed a productive three-year junior career. In his final year of junior, Ferraro scored 108 goals and added 84 assists in 72 games with the Wheat Kings.

Drafted in the fifth round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers. During his first full year in Hartford, Ferraro posted 77 points in 76 games, which was good for second on the team. In all, Ferraro spent six and a half seasons in Hartford which included a personal-best 41 goals in 1988-89.

Ferraro enjoyed an 18-year pro career that saw him make stops with six different franchises. In addition to Hartford, Ferraro also suited up for the New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Atlanta Thrashers and St. Louis Blues. In total Ferraro played 1,258 regular season games in the NHL, scoring 408 goals and adding 490 assists for 898 points. He also spent 1,288 minutes in the penalty box.

Ferraro appeared in an additional 68 playoff games, scoring 21 goals and picking up 22 assists while serving 54 minutes in the penalty box.
