BC Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Nominations. Nominate an inductee for the BCHHOF.

The BC Hockey Hall of Fame was established to preserve and honor the history of the game of hockey. Every year, several individuals are inducted and recognized based on their achievements and contributions to the sport. Once Inducted, their plaques and memorabilia are displayed at the BC Hockey Hall of Fame, located at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, BC.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Nominations for Induction are accepted throughout the course of the year, however the cut of date for accepting nominations are September 1st annually (for following year induction).

Categories include: 

  • Player
  • Official
  • Builder
  • Team

Any organization or individual is welcome to submit a nomination.

Please complete and submit a nomination form for our Annual Induction Award. Nominations close on September 1st each year.

NOMINATION DETAILS

  • In order to allow the selection committee to fully understand the achievements of a nominee, please include as much supporting documentation as possible. 

 

This may include: 

  • Letters of Support
  • Biography, Background, or resume on candidate’s career
  • Information on where and when the individual made their contributions or achieved greatness
  • Any hard copy information supporting their background (ie news paper clippings, statistics, news stories, pictures, etc)

SELECTION PROCESS

  • Nominations for Induction in the following calendar year are accepted until September 1st
  • Any individual or association may submit a nomination
  • Each nomination is eligible for three (3) consecutive years. If at the end of three (3) consecutive years of eligibility, a nomination has not been selected for induction, the nomination must sit inactive for a period of one (1) year after which the nomination can be resubmitted
  • All nominations will be considered at an initial Selection Committee meeting in September. Depending on the outcome of that process, further information on the nomination may be required. The final selection process will take place in December and the names will be released in January

A. CATEGORIES

We have 4 categories for nomination: Player, Official, Builder, or Team

B. SELECTION CRITERIA

  • The Player category is intended to recognize those Players who have shown some combination of sportsmanship, character, passion, and high-level playing ability during their playing career in hockey
  • The player category may recognize those Players who have made a significant contribution to the evolution of hockey by exhibiting a “pioneering” quality involving some aspect of invention, innovation, or trailblazing that changed the shape of hockey for those who followed.
  • The Player must have been a permanent resident in British Columbia for a period of ten (10) years during their minor hockey, junior, or professional careers
  • The Player may have been born in BC and developed their skill while a permanent resident of BC, but may have played outside of BC for an extensive period of time during their hockey careers
  • Only Players who have been retired for a minimum of 1 year are eligible to be nominated (the BCHHF Board of Directors has the right to waive the mandatory one (1) year waiting period under certain circumstances)
  • The Official category is intended to recognize those Officials who have shown some combination of sportsmanship, character, passion and high-level capability as an official during their career in hockey
  • The Official category may recognize those Officials who have made a significant contribution to the evolution of hockey by exhibiting a “pioneering” quality involving some aspect of invention, innovation, or trailblazing that changed the shape of hockey for those who followed.   • The Official must have been a permanent resident in British Columbia for a period of ten (10) years during their minor hockey, junior, or professional careers
  • The Official may have been born in BC and developed their skill while a permanent resident of BC, but may have worked outside of BC for an extensive period of time during their careers
  • Only Officials who have been retired for a minimum of 1 year are eligible to be nominated (the BCHHF Board of Directors has the right to waive the mandatory one (1) year waiting period under certain circumstances)
  • The Builder category is intended to honour those individuals who have made a significant impact or contribution to the sport of hockey (outside of being a player or official)
  • The Builder may be a person who supports athletes in a leadership capacity at the managerial or executive level, a coach, a trainer, a medic, a media person, an administrator, a volunteer or a person in some other significant off-ice role
  • The Builder is evaluated on their personal achievements, awards, accomplishments, dedication, innovation and contributions to the game of hockey
  • The Builder may have originally been from BC but made significant contributions to the game of hockey outside of BC. Or the Builder may be from somewhere other than BC, but has made significant contributions to the game of hockey in BC
  • The Builder must have been a permanent resident in British Columbia for a period of ten (10) years
  • The Team category is intended to honour any British Columbia-based hockey team that has achieved greatness by winning a championship at the national or international level
  • The Team category may recognize those Teams who have made a significant contribution to the evolution of hockey by exhibiting a “pioneering” quality involving some aspect of the invention, innovation, or trailblazing that changed the shape of hockey for those who followed. 
  • For a Team to be eligible for nomination/induction, more than half of the team must be retired from national, international, or professional play
  • The Team will be evaluated on its overall achievements, awards, accomplishments, contributions to the community, and dedication to the game of hockey
