Gerry Sillers has been a member of the Vancouver Canucks hockey family since 1968-69. He turned pro with the WHL Canucks and in his rookie season shared a WHL championship resulting in the team being inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Sillers played four seasons with the Canucks affiliate in the AHL Rochester Americans. Following his playing career in 1974-75, he joined the Canucks Alumni.

In 1989 he became president, a position he held until his retirement in 2017 after 28 years in office. Siller is credited with enhancing and leading the best alumni in the NHL. He was honoured by the NHL Players Association with the presentation of the NHL’s 7th Man Award in 2015. Sillers was a director and secretary-treasurer for the NHL Alumni for 14 years.

Over the years, the Canucks Alumni has focussed on promoting the game of hockey throughout BC while supporting youth, education and benevolent causes. The alumni awards several scholarships a year to BCHL players and trainers in the name of Larry Ashley. The Canucks alumni is comprised of former players, coaches, administrators and associates. Since its inception and many of the years led by Gerry Sillers, the alumni has raised close to two million dollars for charitable, non-profit and amateur hockey organizations.
